Welcome to Dublin

So...I'm in Dublin! I got in not long ago, found my hostel (with only a little trouble), and reassured my family and friends that I have, in fact, arrived intact.
Although I haven't seen much of the city yet, I'm already enjoying it. There's a bustling atmosphere, but without the urgency you find in North American cities. The people I've spoken to seem pleasant and polite, and the accent...just delightful! It's a beautiful day here; sunny and clear, but still a bit crisp (it seems to be about 14*C, but maybe a little warmer in the sun).
The only real problem I've encountered is with the street signage; the plaques they have up might as well be invisible to someone used to the massive, brightly coloured, prominently placed signs in North America. They're small and dull and up high on buildings...very easy to overlook. But I'm sure I'll get used to it...it certainly helps to know where to look!
I'm off now, to explore the area...O'Connell St., I think.

Me in Cuba, February 2006

Welcome!

Well...welcome to my blog! This is the first time I've ever done anything like this, so I hope you'll be patient with the inevitable collection of errors to follow. But I'll do my best!
I've started this blog to document the trip I am about to undertake--6 months or so in Europe, more or less on my own. It will be my first time travelling alone, and for such an extended period. Rather than harass everyone with constant updates and clog up inboxes with the ridiculous number of photographs I'm sure to take, I thought I'd try this.
So...here we go!
